Tyson, Blake

 
Biography:

Blake Tyson is currently Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Central Arkansas. He received a DMA from the Eastman School of Music, an MM from Kent State University, and a BM from the University of Alabama. While at Eastman, he also received the prestigious Performer's Certificate. He has also served on the faculties of New Mexico State University and the University of Alabama.

He has performed with numerous orchestras, and is active as a chamber musician in both the classical and jazz genres. Dr. Tyson also performs as a member of the flute and percussion duo, Imbate. The duo recently traveled to Egypt for performances in Alexandria and Cairo. Tyson's teachers include John Beck, Michael Burritt, Larry Mathis, and Opeggy Benkeser, and while at Kent State University he worked closely with Halim El-Dabh, devoting intensive study to his system of notation for the derabucca (goblet-shaped ceramic drum). Blake Tyson is a concert artist and clinician for Malletech and Zildjian.
