Broström, Tobias

Biography:

Swedish composer Tobias Broström ( b. 1978 ) had four years of percussion studies from the Malmö Academy of Music behind him when he embarked on a course of studies in composition for Rolf Martinsson and subsequently the Italian composer prof. Luca Francesconi. In 2003 he became teacher of arrangement/composition and music theory at Sundsgården Folk High School. Although it is natural for a percussionist to compose for his own instrument ( after all, he knows the genre inside out ), Broström has also composed electro-acoustic music, solo/chamber music and orchestral music, such as his Octal Arch for symphony orchestra and Arena - Percussion Concerto No 1 for percussion and orchestra. In the winter of 2004 he was awarded the Rosenborg-Gehrman composition scholarship. His compositions have been performed in venues and concert halls across Europe, America and Asia.
