Perry High School Percussion Ensemble

Formed in 2004, this ensemble gives an annual concert and regularly receive superior ratings in the OMEA solo & ensemble adjudicated event. They have performed with professional soloists, including Bob Becker and Dr. Susan Powell, both of whom led a masterclass for the percussionists, as well as Joe Krygler and Jim Rupp. The ensemble has also been guest conducted by Phil Faini. They have performed in the Ohio State University Percussion Ensemble Festival and at the Ohio Music Educators Association conference. 

Numerous PHS percussion students have been selected for honors that include Ohio State University Honor Percussion Ensemble and Honor Band, Ohio University Honor Band, Capital University Honor Band and OMEA's All-State Band, District 8 Honor Band and East Regional Orchestra. A number of the students have gone on to study percussion in college.

The Percussion Enesmble is directed by Darin Good. In addition to teaching percussion at Perry High School, Darin has an extensive private percussion studio and plays with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bethel Temple Praise Band, as well as performing gigs with pit orchestras and various Dixieland bands. Good has played with the Fairmount Boys and Canton Concert band and has been a featured soloist with the Canton Concert band. He is currently playing with the Sounds of Sousa Concert Band.

Perry High School uses Malletech instruments and mallets. Their collection includes a Malletech Stilletto, a Malletech orchestral xylophone and a Malletech glockenspiel.
