George Frock

George Frock holds the position of Professor Emeritus at The University of Texas. He retired after serving for 34 years as Director of the percussion program. He also contributed to the School of Music in administration, having served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Associate Director of the School of Music, and was the founder of the Longhorn Music Camp. He is nationally recognized as a teacher, performer, and composer, and served as Principal Timpanist for the Austin Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for 37 seasons. Under Professor Frock's direction, the University of Texas Percussion Ensemble became well-known through appearances at numerous conventions including PASIC, MENC, and CBDNA. They have premiered several works for percussion and have recorded for the CRI label. He continues to serve as an Educational Consultant and Clinician for the Ludwig/Musser Division of the Selmer Co. He regularly contributes reviews of percussion publications for Percussive Notes, the official publication of the Percussive Arts Society.

Three percussion quartets, each of different textures, are accompanied by bongos, congas, and a drum set (with an extended solo). The metal quartet includes cowbells and a frying pan, the bead quartet is scored for maracas and shekere, and the wood quartet features two pairs of claves, a woodblock and a temple block.
