Gordon Stout (b.1952) is currently Professor of Percussion at the School of Music, Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y., where he has taught percussion since 1980.

When you hear a profound and beautiful work like Stout’s Sedimental Structures, it makes you wish more players would explore Stout’s output other than the Mexican Dances. Nothing against the Dances (we’re very happy he composed them and that we have them in our repertoire!), but the depth and breadth of Stout’s music goes so far beyond his well-known “popular” music. Here is a major work for 5 octave marimba that really utilizes the full range. Commissioned by Robert VanSice, the premiere recording is featured on Stout’s new CD, Astral Projections. Spiral bound.
