Written for four timpani and two Chinese opera gongs, Kataigída builds a thunderstorm using rhythm, meter, and extended performance techniques. Hinger begins slow and quiet with the storm in the distance, and uses 7/8 meter and hemiolic rhythms to create unstable tension. The piece intensifies as the storm moves overhead, and finishes with crashing cymbals and pulsing cadence. Duration 3:20, perfect addition to any performance.
