Max Seide Leth, a Danish musician renowned for his work as a pianist, vibraphonist, composer, and educator.
Born on February 24, 1921, in Slagelse, Denmark, Max Seide Leth was immersed in music from a young age. His mother, Emma Seide Christensen, was a pianist, and his father, Otto Sørensen Leth, was a regimental musician. Max received early piano instruction from his mother and later pursued formal music education at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he earned his Soloist's Diploma in 1945.
Initially a pianist, Leth's musical trajectory took a significant turn when, during a performance, he was offered a vibraphone instead of a piano. Despite initial discomfort, he embraced the instrument and developed a distinctive style that led him to favor the vibraphone over the piano in many performances. This shift contributed to his recognition as a skilled vibraphonist and composer.
Throughout his career, Leth collaborated with numerous prominent Danish and international artists. He was a member of Svend Asmussen's orchestra for 13 years, showcasing his versatility and musical prowess.
