Andrew Bockman

Andrew Bockman is an active performer, educator, composer, and arranger from Tampa, Florida. He holds a Doctorate in Percussion Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, where he received the prestigious Performer’s Certificate in 2018, and is a Performing Artist & Educator with Malletech Inc. Andrew holds a Master’s degree in percussion from Eastman as well as a Bachelor’s degree in percussion from Florida State University, where he graduated summa cum laude.

With a passion for both orchestral and contemporary chamber ensemble repertoire, Andrew has performed with renowned ensembles including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, Eastman Wind Ensemble, Eastman Philharmonia, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Eastman Percussion Ensemble, and Eastman’s Musica Nova. He currently serves as stand-in timpanist and first-call extra percussionist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, performing major works of the symphonic repertoire on subscription series concerts, Pops concerts, holiday concerts, educational concerts for local primary schools, and outreach concerts to communities in the greater Rochester area. Andrew has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention with the Eastman Percussion Ensemble as winners of the 2017 International Percussion Ensemble Competition, premiering works by John Psathas and Michael Burritt. He served as Principal Timpanist with the Eastman Wind Ensemble on their 2019 tour to Severance Hall, and was featured as a soloist at the 2016 McCormick Marimba Festival. He appeared with the National Orchestral Institute on their 2020 album Bernstein, Gershwin & Copland: Works, released by NAXOS, and with the acclaimed FSU Percussion Ensemble on their Volume Three: Ten Windows, released by Garnet House Productions.

An active composer and arranger, Andrew has had original works premiered and performed by percussionists of the Eastman School of Music, the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, the University of Maryland, the Chautauqua Institution, and several other universities and summer festivals around the U.S.
