Troy Bennefield

Dr. Troy Bennefield is an Assistant Professor in the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. He serves as the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands. Before pursuing his doctoral degree, Dr. Bennefield served as Associate Director of Bands and Percussion Coordinator at Alpharetta High School in suburban Atlanta. Opening in 2004, the AHS percussion program quickly produced numerous all-state musicians and was featured at GMEA and ASTA conferences. While in Georgia, Dr. Bennefield was appointed Principal timpanist of the Rome Symphony Orchestra, was a featured soloist with the Tara Winds, and performed in events around metro-Atlanta including the Steve Reich celebration at Georgia State University. Dr. Bennefield holds the DMA in Wind Conducting and MM in Percussion Performance from the University of Oklahoma and a BS in Music Education from the University of Alabama. He has been published in the Georgia Music News and The Instrumentalist and has written drill and arranged for marching bands and percussion throughout the country. Originally from Alabama, he lives in Houston with his wife Michelle.
