Choirs

A challenging work technically, “Choirs” also displays the multiple percussionists’ musical development. The piece has the practical advantage that each movement uses a relatively small set-up, facilitating the learning/practice process.

Timpanist, composer, educator Stanley Leonard, achieved prominence in the music world during a distinguished thirty eight year career as Principal Timpanist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

A challenging work technically, Choirs also displays the multiple percussionists’ musical development. The piece has the practical advantage that each movement uses a relatively small set-up, facilitating the learning/practice process. The first movement uses all woods, the second metals, and the third drums, the three different groups being the Choirs of the title. Accessible to the average listener, Choirs would be a great choice for a senior recital!
