The piece was written while caring for the composer’s friend as he was approaching death at the age of 99.  Steve’s friend, Allan Mehl, wondered aloud one night if the full moon in the sky would be the last he would ever see. This arrangement for piano, marimba, and violin is suitable for recital program’s or jury. The 12-beat rhythmic cycle (or “compás”) is borrowed from the Spanish flamenco genre “Bulerías”.

The piece was debuted as part of the Pendulum New Music Series at the University of Colorado.
