Wood That Sings

The title reflects the composer’s concept of the marimba as the “wood that sings”. Inspired by various works for solo guitar, this 2-mallet composition gives players a chance to exploit the expressive capabilities of the marimba.

Gordon Stout (b.1952) is currently Professor of Percussion at the School of Music, Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y., where he has taught percussion since 1980.

The title reflects the composer’s concept of the marimba as the “wood that sings”. Inspired by various works for solo guitar, this 2-mallet composition gives players a chance to exploit the expressive capabilities of the marimba. A 5.0 octave instrument is required.
