William Cahn joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as principal percussionist after graduating form the Eastman School of Music in 1968.

Miniature Suite for Percussion was first performed in 1964 by the Settlement Music School (Philadelphia) Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Alan Abel. The work is comprised of three very short movements – Introduction, Largo, and  Canon, each of which is self-contained, constructed minimally, and creates its own distinct mood.
