William Cahn joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as principal percussionist after graduating form the Eastman School of Music in 1968.

Where Sirens Dwell was completed in June 2006. It was composed for and is dedicated to Double Take – Sheryl Linch and Don Parker. The music is scored for trumpet and percussion (vibraphone, tuned Chinese opera gongs, 2 suspended cymbals, set of Noah bells) with a prerecorded CD. The Sirens of ancient Greek mythology were maidens whose songs were so alluring that mariners, upon hearing their singing, became spellbound leaving their ships to be dashed to pieces on the rocks.

About the music the following verse is offered by the composer:

Beautiful music yearning souls to soothe:

The Sirens’ enchantment seeks mountains to move.

But who gives their music its beauty?

Beholders plying mystical arts.

And where do these Sirens dwell?

On the shoals of island hearts.
